The Finals Season 2 came out a few weeks ago and fans have largely enjoyed the newest chapter of the game. It introduced an exciting brand-new map, and it also introduced some new weapons and gadgets. One of these fresh gadgets is the Data Reshaper, and many fans agree that it is the worst gadget in The Finals and desperately needs buffs or a total rework.

There is a lot happening with The Finals right now. As of writing, fans can get the Skill Issue skin for free but must act quickly because it is limited time only. If you enjoy free stuff, then you can also get a bundle consisting of two epic outfits and 12 weapon skins for free with no time limit at all. You can also find the patch notes for update 2.2.0 which delivered an LTM event to celebrate Easter.

In addition to delivering an Easter festivity, update 2.2.0 also buffed and nerfed two of the most controversial weapons in the game. These buffs and nerfs were well received, and now fans would like buffs or a total rework delivered for the Data Reshaper.

The Finals fans lament Data Reshaper as worst gadget

The Finals fans have created a thread on Reddit discussing whether the Data Reshaper needs buffs or a total rework. The thread begins with the assessment that ‘it’s the worst gadget in the game with 0 competition’.

This is one of the new gadgets introduced alongside new weapons in The Finals Season 2. Below is a list of all the new weapons and gizmos that were added:

Weapons:

  • Light – 93R burst-fire machine pistol
  • Medium – FAMAS burst assault rifle
  • Heavy – KS-23 slug shotgun

Gadgets:

  • Light – The Gateway:
    • A pair of limited-range deployable portals! When both are thrown and activated, contestants and objects can move between the two locations. Anyone can use a portal, but players can’t see or shoot through them! Perfect for a quick getaway, when things get hairy.
  • Medium – The Dematerializer:
    • A specialization that temporarily erases physical surfaces, like walls, ceilings, or goo — allowing contestants to see, shoot, and pass through them. Create new passageways and close them back up again —turn every obstacle into an open door.
  • Medium – The Data Reshaper:
    • A specialization that temporarily erases physical surfaces, like walls, ceilings, or goo — allowing contestants to see, shoot, and pass through them. Create new passageways and close them back up again —turn every obstacle into an open door.
  • Heavy – The Anti-Gravity Cube:
    • A deployable cube that manipulates gravity in its immediate area, lifting contestants and objects upwards! Is it a traversal tool? Or a defensive gadget? It’s up to each contestant!

As for the problems with the Data Reshaper, fans agree that the issue is its range. One of the top replies on Reddit says ‘Nobody’s just going to let you run up and reshape turrets/mines, and if the team fight is already over, there are other ways to deal with that anyway.’

With the primary issue being range, many fans agree with buffs that would allow it to work a ‘little further away, and affect just a slightly bigger area’. Another suggestion found in the Reddit replies is to ‘Make it a long-range gadget that can go through walls’.

The overall consensus from fans is that it needs to be ranged like a grenade with a good-sized radius’. But, away from just long-range and AoE buffs, an interesting rework suggested by some fans is ‘instead of reshaping enemy gadgets into chairs and stuff it should just charge them to your team’. One fan echoed this sentiment saying it’d be very powerful ‘If you could convert turrets and APS to your team’.

Hopefully it receives some helpful buffs or reworks over the next few updates from Embark. There is a fear from some fans that it will be retired because of its uselessness amongst Medium classes. However, instead of being retired, fingers crossed they instead work on making it an actually valid option for Medium builds.
