One of the best aspects of The Finals has always been its drip. Embark’s multiplayer shooter has fantastic gameplay, but it also has a lot of great cosmetics and outfits. In yesterday’s update, fans were treated to some new outfits to celebrate Halloween, and this has caused some controversy with The Finals developer responding to accusations of being “scummy” for reselling an outfit that was previously dubbed ‘exclusive’ to the Season 1 battle pass.
Make sure to check out The Finals update 4.4.0 patch notes as there is a lot more than just new Halloween skins. In addition, players who are now eligible can begin the playtest for Embark’s new multiplayer shooter, Arc Raiders, and The Finals is set to receive a big upgrade in November that will be available for limited players only.
While all of the skins added to the store with yesterday’s update are fantastic, there is a bit of bother online because of Embark reselling the alien skin from Season 1.
The Finals dev responds to alien bundle controversy
There has been some controversy regarding the skins added to The Finals store through the 4.4.0 update. All of the controversy revolves around an alien skin that was previously marked as exclusive to the Season 1 battle pass.
In response to the uproar, Oscar asked upset fans, “Do you think that if we made a small change to the Alien and sold it, that would have felt less ‘scummy’?”.
In addition, Dusty provided an in-depth response on Discord:
“We’ve seen much discussion about the Alien Bundle (which was part of the Season 1 Battle Pass) being available again. To start with, the Alien, Pumpkin head, and the Bat wings, are limited-time items only available during the Halloween seasonal event (but only the pumpkin was marked correctly, which we apologize for).
This is the first time we are doing something like this. The Battle Pass is designed to be an amazing deal on the key items of a season, one that is crazy affordable and also earns you enough money to get the next one, with some leftover. It’s a fun and affordable way to get the themed items of each season, either through playing actively or buying the battle pass pages.
We try to avoid using FOMO as a money-making tool as much as possible. We don’t think that is healthy, which is why store items often stay forever, and seasonal items might return! It’s also why we allow our items in bundles to be purchased individually if you don’t want the entire bundle.
We do have items that are meant as rewards for doing an amazing job during a season – things like Ruby, Diamond & Emerald rewards, for example – that you can only get by participating in a season and doing well! Those never return and cannot be purchased.
We brought the alien back and opted against making changes to the items, because we didn’t want those of you who already bought and earned it in Season 1 to feel tempted to purchase it again. Additionally, there’s a strong, thematic reason for the Alien’s return at this time, which will become clearer tomorrow…”.
As for the thematic reason, it’s because The Finals has now started a new HOLTOW Classic event called Cosmic Liability. This has added alien anti-gravity beams and super-charged lasers to the following maps along with some Halloween-themed decor:
- Skyway Stadium
- Vegas
- Monaco
- Seoul
