There are a few meta weapons in The Finals that it seems hard not to use right now, and one of the most prominent examples is the Medium build FCAR. Despite there being another Medium build assault rifle in the AKM, you’ll seldom see players choosing it over the FCAR, which led one Reddit user to ask those who do use it, why?

In the post from u/sharkt0pus, they said “After maxing out my FCAR I decided to give the AK a try and I honestly can’t find any reason to use it over the FCAR.” stating that the only benefit they could see was the extra magazine size.

And objectively, they aren’t wrong. Despite a smaller magazine and slower fire rate, the FCAR has lower recoil and much higher damage, making it much easier to quickly take down enemies. It even has better range to help you pick off enemies from afar. So with all that, why are some players still choosing to use the AKM?

Like OP predicted, the main reason is the magazine size. “Who needs to hit their shots when you can just hipfire in the general direction of the enemy”, comments u/potatoquake. Meanwhile, u/TheUltimate43 adds that “those 16 extra bullets in the clip I find myself winning a 2v1 majority of the time without having to reload”.

But for some players like u/UncannyJC, the answer is even simpler than that. “Because my AK has a cool skin while my FCAR does not” is a line of reasoning many of us can probably relate to.

But at the end of the day, whether you use the FCAR or AKM just comes down to personal preference. While the FCAR seems to be the meta pick, the smaller magazine means its success relies on you being able to hit your shots. On the other hand, the AKM might deal less damage, but you can be somewhat more trigger-happy, especially against multiple opponents.

I think u/nukiepop put it best, replying that “the AK is idiot proof, the FCAR does demand you hit your shots”. And as a bit of an idiot myself, that’s something I can definitely get down with.
