Square Enix has announced The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story, a murder mystery adventure game for PlayStation, Nintendo Switch & PC.

The game centres around the Shijima family, who’ve suffered through four murders over the past century. Aside from the familial ties, each murder seems linked to the Fruit of Youth, a mysterious family heirloom passed between generations. You’ll take on the role of a mystery novelist known as Haruka Kagami.

You’ll work with her partner, Eiji Shijima—who’s also a part of the cursed family— to uncover the decades-long hidden truths. As it’s a live action FMV game, you’ll get to see the story of each murder unfold. In a nice touch, each actor plays multiple roles across the time periods, meaning someone playing the victim in one period might be playing the killer in the next.

As you watch the scenes unfurl, you’ll pick up clues which you’ll then take with you into the Reasoning Phase. In this “cognitive space” (read: mind palace), you’ll turn these clues into hypothesis, which you can then use to solve the crime. Be careful though, as you can get things wrong and lead your investigation down the wrong path.

You can check out a trailer for the game below. The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story is set to launch on May 12 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
