Striking Distance Studios has unveiled the first gameplay footage from upcoming survival horror The Callisto Protocol.

The new footage came with a PlayStation Blog post from Glen Schofield, who offered up a little more detail. We now know you’re playing as Jacob Lee, an inmate at the mysterious Black Iron Prison. After a mysterious outbreak, guards and inmates are turning into monsters called Biophage. You’ll have to fight to survive the monsters and uncover the secrets of the sinister United Jupiter Company.

As you can see from the footage below, expect plenty of scares, dark shadows and mutated monsters. Proceedings have a distinctly Dead Space feel to them, as we expected from the creators of that series. However, there’s a few key differences, not least some murderous robots that aren’t taking too kindly to the inmates.

Gore, tentacles and some futuristic weapons are all here to satisfy your space-horror urges. And it looks like Lee has a few lights on his suit that more than remind of us of Issac’s suit. We can’t complain though, as the integration of the UI in the world was one of the best things about Dead Space.
