Ubisoft and The Tetris Company have announced a partnership to develop the iconic Tetris franchise for digital channels on Xbox One and PS4.

“We’re very excited to start working with this world-renowned brand, and can’t wait to combine Ubisoft’s expertise and all the capacities of next-gen consoles to create an exciting new Tetris experience for fans,” commented Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft co-founder and CEO.

There’s no word on when the new game will be released.

The Tetris franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and has sold hundreds of millions of units across more than 50 platforms since its launch in 1984.

Ubisoft’s press release suggests the title will be targeted at casual gamers, referencing the publisher’s success with The Smurfs license and its recent partnership with Hasbro.
