Universal Parks & Nintendo have announced that the Super Nintendo World theme park will come to the US at Universal Studios Hollywood next year.

The Super Nintendo World theme park first opened its doors to Japanese fans back in 2021. Now, the “innovative, immersive and highly-anticipated themed land” will come to the West for the first time. Featuring Mario, Luigi and Peach, the park will open within the resort based in Los Angeles, California.

The announcement didn’t give too much details into exactly what rides and attractions would be in the park. However, it did say: “The immersive land will be a visual spectacle of vibrant colors and architectural ingenuity located within a newly expanded area of the theme park, featuring a groundbreaking ride and interactive areas, to be enjoyed by the whole family. Themed shopping and dining will enhance the entire experience.”

The Japanese park includes an AR Mario Kart ride and a recreation of Bowser’s castle for visitors to explore. Originally Universal Studios Japan had scheduled to open the park earlier in 2021, but this was delayed due to the global pandemic. As for the future, A Donkey Kong expansion is rumoured to be arriving for those guys by 2024.

Ahead of the opening of the park proper, Universal Studios Hollywood will give its retail store a Nintendo World makeover. Visitors will be able to pick up a range of Mario & Luigi merch along with appropriately-themed apparel. Finally, the Super Nintendo World park’s US arm will open in 2023.
