Thunderful Games has announced SteamWorld Headhunter, described as a co-operative action adventure set in the SteamWorld universe.
The game was revealed at the conclusion of last night’s Thunderful Games Showcase event. It’ll mark the cowboy-meets-steampunk-robot series’ first foray into 3D and pick up directly after the events of SteamWorld Dig 2.
We weren’t given much more info on the game other than that and the trailer. However, we did at least get a brief blurb. “SteamWorld Headhunter is a stylised and colourful, 3rd person co-op action adventure with a head-popping twist.” As to what this twist is is anybody’s guess, but the trailer seems to imply it may involve one of you controlling your robotic protagonist’s head, while the other controls the body.
It’s fair to say the SteamWorld series really hasn’t rested on its laurels when it comes to genre variety. The first game SteamWorld Tower Defence from 2010 for the DS is quite self-explanatory. Perhaps its best known entries are SteamWorld Dig and its sequel, which were both excellent 2D platformers on Switch, PS4 and Xbox One. But it’s also had a turn based tactical strategy entry in SteamWorld Heist in 2016 on PS4, PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS. The most recent entry was SteamWorld Quest, a deck-based RPG that launched in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch.
There’s no word on platforms or even a date for SteamWorld HeadHunter yet, but hopefully we’ll hear more soon. For now, check out the teaser trailer for yourself down below.
