Players of Starfield have been noticing that the game’s NPCs often look a little teary-eyed. Now, thanks to a modder, that’s a problem of the past.

Found on NexusMod, creator GoatMistress has found a way to adjust the bright white waterline on many of the NPCs eyes, that makes those characters look like they’re constantly on the verge of tears. The mod’s already had more than 8K views on Nexus Mod since it was launched just over 24 hours ago, and has plenty of praise from the community who thought that Starfield’s faces looked weird, but couldn’t quite put their finger on why.

It’s been something of a running trend for characters in Bethesda games to have something slightly off about their faces. Since the blocky polygons of Oblivion and the unnaturally fixed gazes in Fallout, faces have often been a sticking point. While Starfields are – on a technical level – the best ones yet, it does seem that there’s something of an uncanny valley about them that’s unnerving players. Just this past weekend, players were capturing NPCs posing in a frankly terrifying manner, with some of the odd facial expressions they could pull off.

Despite still being a couple of days out from Starfield’s full release, the mod community is already in full swing, creating mods the range from the useful – such as being able to change your FOV – to the downright silly, such as this Phil Spencer flashlight. There’s bound to be more as the days go on, but if you want to know how to install mods yourself, best check our guide on Starfield mods list, how to install and best mods on Nexus Mods.
