A few days have passed since Bethesda’s Starfield Direct event went live, but hardcore fans still continue to celebrate all of the tidbits that were shown during the live stream. In addition to quick looks at several gameplay snippets and unique, interplanetary city designs, the fan base has now also identified another reason to rejoice the release of the upcoming outer space adventure: the notable lack of famous celebrity actors to sell the game.

In what some could call a subtle jab at games that have utilized this sort of marketing tactic à la Cyberpunk 2077, one Reddit user named GrisWitch has now created a post stating that they “especially liked” how none of the previews made use of celebrity star power just to make it more palatable to a wider audience. In their message, they’d mention that “big name actors getting motion capture and all” often “feels distracting” and “a bit unnecessary.”

However, they do go on to note that “there are amazing voice actors out there” that, when “combined with memorable characters that are well-designed and animated,” often end up carrying the game’s story. Most people commenting under the thread echoed the post creator’s statements as one user said that they’d want studios “to spend the money in paying the best writers and development team they can afford” instead of “shooting their load on two or three big names.”

Some, however, ended up disagreeing with the message with one person stating that they “see no issue if the celebrity does a good job at voice acting. A few responders even went on to single out the performances of Sir Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean as Uriel Septim VII and Martin Septim in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion respectively as examples of brilliant celebrity voice acting performances.

But with that said, the absence of popular actors doesn’t necessarily indicate a game’s future level of success so now, only time will tell if Starfield will indeed benefit from its glaring lack of influencer marketing.
