Early access players of Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws are forced to delete their save files due to the discovery of game-breaking bugs. Despite paying extra to play the game four days early, the game’s biggest fans now have to start the game all over again.

Ubisoft tells players to delete Star Wars Otutlaws saves

Following the arrival of Star Wars Outlaws 1.000.002, players are being advised to start the open-world game from the start again. Players who continue playing the game on a launch day save file will encounter more issues than usual, including game-breaking bugs.

An email sent to players by Ubisoft heavily advises the start of a brand-new save file instead of trying to force through the game on a launch-day save.

“To best experience the Outer Rim, we rolled out a maintenance to make sure everyone is playing the latest version of the game,” the email reads. “As one of the players affected who had access to an older version of the game, we are aware you might be encountering some issues after this recent patch.

“Once you’ve confirmed you have the latest version, please start a new save file to fully enjoy Star Wars Outlaws as our team intended,” the email continues. “If you continue on a prior save you will unfortunately face issues and progression blockers.”

At the time of writing, only PlayStation 5 players are required to start brand-new save files. However, as patches continue to roll out across other platforms, Xbox and PC early access players may also have to start the game all over again.

A blight on early access

With players paying extra to play Star Wars Outlaws a few days early, these save file issues are horrid. As reviewers, we often have to deal with incompatible save files upon launch, but these issues very rarely rear their head for consumers.

With this issue now affecting players, it shows that the additional cost for early access may actually be a detriment. However, with Star Wars Outlaws spoilers already online, many hardcore fans may feel pressured to buy in early.
