Nintendo has offered a Summer 2022 release window for inky shooter Splatoon 3 during a stacked Nintendo Direct last night.

We got a good look at the game’s co-operative Salmon Run mode during the event. You and up to three friends will take on waves of the fishy Salmonoid foes with your ink shooters. But you’ll also have to be wary of bosses that will force you to change up your tactics to succeed or be covered in the green stuff.

One of these we got to see in the trailer was the Fish Stick. It’s quite literally a giant monolith-looking thing swinging Salmonoid from its top, and throws paint onto your Inklings like a sprinkler. Then there’s the Flipper Flopper, a dolphin ready to take you down with extreme paint-flavoured prejudice. We’re also teased something else in the water. Something big and very fishy indeed…

Splatoon 3 was first revealed around this time last year in another Nintendo Direct. As well as the returning co-op mode, expect a new single player story mode called Return of the Mammalians, which we got a glimpse of back in September.

Check out the new trailer for yourself down below. Splatoon 3 arrives this Summer exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
