Paramount Pictures has finally given fans a look at what they can expect with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 after releasing a not-so-cryptic image depicting the lower half of famously notorious franchise anti-hero Shadow the Hedgehog. Along with the incomplete look at the Blue Blur’s infamous arch-rival, Paramount also revealed when you can expect the third film in the series to drop, though you’re in for a slightly long wait if you’re as eager as the rest of the fan base to watch it.
Ahead of the launch of Sonic the Hedgehog’s spinoff series starring the Idris Elba-voiced Knuckles, Sega and Paramount are staying true to the franchise protagonist’s “gotta go fast” mantra with this latest reveal. Of course, this isn’t the first time Shadow was shown on the big screen after the anti-hero was briefly featured in a voiceless mid-credits scene as part of the second Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
Now, with the voice actor for Shadow still yet to be revealed, this has naturally prompted numerous fans to speculate on who will be taking the role of the enigmatic dark speedster. Though several names have predictably popped up, one beloved talent stands out: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 fans want Keanu Reeves to voice Sonic’s arch-rival in the upcoming movie, as evidenced by the slew of comments below Paramount Pictures’ X announcement post.
Though this has still yet to be confirmed by the film’s higher-ups, the John Wick actor’s cool demeanor and iconic low growl in delivering his lines have many believing that he’ll be the perfect fit for the equally icy franchise anti-hero. Some, however, are hoping that The Batman talent Robert Pattinson will take the reins due to his similarly impressive performances as a brooding figure throughout the years, not only as the latest reincarnation of Bruce Wayne but also as the stoic Edward Cullen in the Twilight film saga.
Now, before you start spreading the news of Shadow’s voice actor, it’s worth noting that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be taking place after the events of the second film and the Knuckles TV series, so you’ll need to tune into the latter once it airs on Paramount+ in early 2024.
