The latest title in the series will apparently remain true to the series’ roots, and is to be the first title from the newly formed SEGA Driving Studio. We can look forward to “vibrant next generation graphics, intuitive controls, competitive bumper-to-bumper racing and fully reactive environments,” that are said to enable the title to redefine the rally genre.

The rally genre has become the domain of ultra realistic simulation based titles that portray the sport in minute detail but offer little in terms of fun,” commented Guy Wilday, Studio Director, SEGA Driving Studio. “With the emphasis being on entertainment, SEGA Rally will focus on delivering an adrenaline fuelled competitive racing experience but without over-complicating the rally experience.

Take control of a wide selection of 4WD, 2WD & Classic vehicles that will react differently to each kind of road surface, be it gravel, tarmac, or snow. All environments will also be fully deformable, with no two laps ever being the same. AI will also get a next-gen overhaul, with your opponents taking into account the racing surface and adapting their racing style to suit. Of course, should you want some human vs. human action then the game will also feature multiplayer via split-screen, and online race modes.

Sega Rally (called SEGA Rally Evo in the US) is scheduled for release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2007.
