Salt and Sacrifice is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC next year.

During Summer Game Fest 2021, Ska Studios announced a sequel to Salt and Sanctuary. That game was a 2-D hand-drawn Soulslike, with a pale and papery look—and a hint of Limbo. It came out on the PS4 and, in 2017, the PS Vita.

Check out the announcement trailer for Salt and Sacrifice:

The description reads, “Explore a new era and region, as well as a new role: a Marked Inquisitor.”

What is a Marked Inquisitor? Apparently, it is, “a criminal condemned, yet spared the hand of justice in exchange for a lifetime of service in the unending war against Mages.”

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Ska Studios’ James Silva said, “Because Shane [Lynch] and I are building Salt and Sacrifice from the ground up as a multiplayer game, co-op is much more intentional than it was in Sanctuary.”

If that sounds good to you, you’ll doubtless be pleased to know that Salt and Sacrifice will feature online co-op, along with local and solo play.

Ska Studios hasn’t announced a release date, beyond 2022. “We still have quite a ways to go, but this has already been one of the most exciting developments in my now strangely long career,” Silva said. “Stay tuned for more info on the road to its launch next year on PS4 and PS5.”
