Hideki Kamiya, the director of Resident Evil 2, Bayonetta and the sadly-scrapped Scalebound, has explained that he doesn’t want to make another game in Capcom’s horror series.
While the brilliant game director has turned away from the prospect of directing another Resi title, they explained that there’s a few games that they’d love to work on again, including Dino Crisis.
Kamiya says no to Resident Evil, yes to dinosaurs
Currently working on an untitled Okami sequel, Hideki Kamiya has a new relationship with Capcom since his departure from the company in the early 2000s. With this revived working relationship, Kamiya was asked what other franchises he’d like to work on.
Speaking on MinnMax’s new video 69 Questions for Okami director Hideki Kamiya, the iconic game director was asked if he would return to Resident Evil. In classic Kamiya fashion, he replied with a very simple and succinct: “nah”.
While the director wouldn’t want to return to Resident Evil – especially as he described the original RE2 as his hardest project ever – he would like to have a hand at Dino Crisis. Despite not working on the series before, Kamiya said he would “love to give it a shot”.
However, the director is seemingly far more interested in returning to his stunning platformer series Viewtiful Joe. After working on both of the original games and its Nintendo DS spin-off, Kamiya would love to give the series a true finale.
“I’ve already got the idea in my head,” Kamiya explained. “So you’ll find out if I ever get to make it.”
Capcom’s Resident Evil series is more popular than ever with a ninth mainline game in the series currently in development. Fans have been clamouring for a new Dino Crisis game for a number of years now, but Capcom hasn’t even released basic remasters for the games. At least we have Exoprimal?
