In the most surprising announcement in modern video games, new game studio Clovers Production is working on an official Okami sequel for modern platforms. Announced alognside new details for Helldivers 2’s Illuminate faction, The Witcher 4 and more, the long-awaited sequel is finally a reality.

Okami Sequel announced

Officially confirmed with the (assumed) working title Okami Sequel, original game director Hideki Kamiya is returning to the series following over a decade of work at Platinum Games. The new video game will see players stepping into the paws of the sun god Amaterasu to save the world once again.

“Okami is a game critically acclaimed for its unique world, heartwarming story, and exciting adventures. Now, a new adventure in the same vein as Okami has been set in motion,” reads the game’s official synopsis from Capcom.

At the time of writing, Capcom’s new project is in very early development. However, with Kamiya in the director’s chair once again, the return to Capcom’s cult classic Zelda-like adventure is an incredibly exciting project. Now, all we need is God Hand 2, right, Capcom? Come on.

Following the release of Bayonetta 3 and the upsetting cancellation of Scalebound, it’s great to see legendary game director Hideki Kamiya back on such an exciting new project. Unfortunately, there’s no sign of when the new game will actually release or on what platforms it’ll launch on.
