Rainbow Six Siege is about to kick off its seventh(!) year, and Ubisoft has made the game’s first order of business for 2022 a changing of the guard in its development team.

As per the announcement on the game’s official website, Leroy Athanassoff is departing his role as Creative Director “to pursue other opportunities at Ubisoft”. Citing personal reasons, he said his goodbye to the fans in an open letter. “This isn’t a decision I make lightly – I love this game and this community, and I’m so proud of everything our team has accomplished together over the last two years – but I’m confident that it’s the right one, and the team has given me their full support.”

Taking over in the role will be new Creative Director Alexander Karpazis. “I’m truly thankful for Leroy’s mentorship over the years. He’s taught me what exemplary leadership, creativity, and passion look like in the position of Creative Director,” he adds. “Leroy’s hard work will be visible in future seasons as the team and I prepare for one of the most ambitious years in Siege’s history. I’m extremely humbled by the team’s trust in me, and I hope to earn the trust of the community in my new role as well.”

Athanassoff first took charge of Rainbow Six Siege following the departure of the game’s launch core team in 2019 to work on other projects. The game has trucked on merrily since under Athanassoff’s leadership, continuously adding new content and operators for its hungry fanbase.

Coming up, co-op sister title Rainbow Six Extraction is set to launch in just over a week’s time. Players who own both Rainbow Six Siege and Rainbow Six Extraction will be able to nab bonus goodies for both games when it arrives on January 20.
