Puppeteer, a quirky looking platformer announced for the PlayStation 3 at Sony’s gamescom press briefing yesterday, has been detailed on the official PlayStation blog.

Gavin Moore, art director at SCE Worldwide Studios took to the blog to talk about the game he’s been working on in secret with a small group of people at Japan Studio.

“Puppeteer all takes place in a magical puppet theatre, owned and run by the slightly eccentric but thoroughly charming Professor Gregorious T. Oswald. His latest production is the weirdly titled ‘The Perilous Journey of a Boy Named Kutaro’,” explained Moore.

He went on to describe the game’s bizarre story, which sounds like something directly out of a children’s book – although, quite a scary one.

“On one dark, moonlit night, the star of the show, a young boy named Kutaro, is carried away by the maleficent Moon Bear King to a black castle where the unlucky lad is transformed into a puppet. Kutaro then displeases the terrible tyrant who duly devours the boy’s wooden head and casts away his body. But the headless hero is not alone, for he discovers a very special pair of magic scissors to help him on his harrowing quest to find his head, and his way home.”

Puppeteer takes place on a stage, with the world moving around you, allowing the developers to create a unique looking adventure that Moore claims will be full of surprises. Lead character Kutaro has a pair of scissors that he can use to cut through the game’s world and take out enemies.

No release date has been announced for Puppeteer but a 2013 release seems likely.
