Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon reckons PlayStation 5 and the new Xbox will signal the end of traditional video game consoles.

Amon’s view echoes what a lot of people are thinking, in the sense that Cloud-based gaming is going to be the way of the future.

‘There’s no question – in our view – that the cloud is the new console,' Amon said (via GameRant). 'You are just gonna start playing on any device, on any screen. That is going to be the future of gaming.’

Microsoft has already said it’s working on a new console, with the latest rumours suggesting it’ll come in two flavours: the Xbox Anaconda and the Xbox Lockhart. Sony, meanwhile, is keeping mum on its next-gen plans, but it’s believed the new PlayStation will support backwards compatibility

Finally, Google recently announced Stadia, a dedicated streaming platform that will support a number of major titles and developers.
