PlayStation 4’s gameplay recording functionality will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription to access, Sony has confirmed.

Sony’s president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the news in a number of Twitter conversations last night, following Microsoft’s confirmation that Xbox One’s GameDVR service will be locked behind an Xbox LIVE Gold paywall.

Gameplay streaming will also be available to all PlayStation Network users without the need for a PlayStation Plus subscription.

PlayStation 4 is said to continuously record the previous 15 minutes of gameplay footage – three times as much as Xbox One’s automated recording.

Sony has previously discussed some of the changes being made to PlayStation Plus with the arrival of PS4, telling VideoGamer.com that automatic updates and “social features” will not require a PS Plus subscription.
