Despite the colossal failure of multiplayer hero shooter Concord, PlayStation hasn’t lost faith in its next live-service game: Fairgame$. According to reports, the gaming giant is still “very positive” about the upcoming multiplayer game even after its recent disaster.
PlayStation has faith in Fairgame$
With Concord being taken offline and players virtually ending their lives in a frantic trophy hunt, many assumed PlayStation would give up on its live-service plans. However, the games company isn’t backing down after just one failure.
Announced in May 2023, before Concord, Fairgame$ is a Payday-style PvP game where thieves compete to nab the most cash. Coming to PS5 and PC, the game doesn’t currently have a release date.
In the latest episode of the GamesIndustry.biz Podcast, renowned industry reporter Christopher Dring revealed Sony is positive about the future of its new live-service game.
“I’ve heard good things about Jade Raymond’s game, is it Fairgame$, I’ve heard good things about that,’ Dring revealed.
“I know people who are a bit skeptical about the trailer, but I’ve heard internal chatter is very positive about it. So there are these other projects that I assume that the ones they are focusing on are the ones that they’re going to go for. [The ones] they’re going to put out there, they’re going to support, and try and make work.”
More live-service in the works
Alongside Fairgame$, PlayStation also has other live-service games in the works. Destiny 2 developer Bungie is also working on Marathon, a PS5 extraction shooter loosely based on the classic Mac FPS series.
At one point, Sony had 12 live-service games in development for PS5 and PC. However, after the colossal failure of Concord, it’s unclear how many of these games will actually see the light of day.
