PlayStation has already taken its latest exclusive, Concord, offline just a week after its August 23rd release date.
Concord shut down by PlayStation
Just days after Concord made its debut on PS5 and PC, PlayStation is pulling the plug. With minutes-long match queues and shockingly low player counts, Sony has axed the multiplayer title.
Announced in a PlayStation Blog entry, PlayStation thanked the game’s small, “passionate” community while taking the game offline.
Concord will officially close down on September 6, 2025. Gamers who purchased the multiplayer shooter on the PlayStation Store will be given a refund. Steam and Epic Games Store users will also be able to request a refund.
“While many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended,” PlayStation announced. “Therefore, at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.”
A future for Concord?
PlayStation has teased that Concord will return at some point. However, it’s unsure how the game will be revived.
With the game selling less than 25,000 copies, and as one of the biggest failures in PlayStation history, Sony may be looking to create a brilliant redemption tale.
If Concord does return, hopes are that the hero shooter will become a free-to-play title, or at least launch as a PlayStation Plus freebie. As for now, the multiplayer game is dead with no sign of life.
