The PlayStation Showcase 2023 kicked off last night with the reveal of Fairgame$ – the first game from Haven Studios.

This is be a multiplayer focused game that’ll see you robbing the rich and redistributing the wealth by taking on heists in near-future vaults as part of an underground movement. There’s some futuristic looking weapons and gadgets in the trailer, although it’s entirely CGI and there’s no gameplay at this early stage. Still, you can check out the debut trailer for yourself below.

Creative director on the game – Mathieu Leduc – took to the PlayStation Blog following the showcase to give those interested some further insight into what we can expect. “We founded Haven with the goal of making the kind of games we all love to play. As huge fans of competitive multiplayer experiences, Fairgame$ came from a desire to create a new type of PvP game with emergent sandbox gameplay. We want to deliver a fresh multiplayer experience that rewards creativity and mastery and delivers surprising stories each and every time you play.”

Haven Studios is the studio set up by former Assassin’s Creed executive producer Jade Raymond following her departure from Google Stadia in 2021. The team were soon snapped up by PlayStation by last summer becoming an official first-party PlayStation Studio, with their first project (which we now know to be Fairgame$) teased as a “persistent, scalable online game”.

Fairgame$ is still in a very early stage – so there’s no release date just yet, and what we saw felt very reminiscent of Sega’s similarly themed shooter Hyenas, so it looks like between those and Payday 3 like there’s gonna be plenty of competition in the multiplayer heist genre in the near future. Fairgame$ will release on both PC and PlayStation 5 whenever it arrives, so expect plenty more info in the coming months.
