It’s been a good year so far for PlayStation gamers. The PS5 has seen some great console exclusives with the releases of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade, and arguably the most successful game of the year so far, Helldivers 2. While it’s been a strong first half of the year, an industry insider has said a PlayStation May 2024 showcase is planned and that it could possibly happen this week.
In addition to this rumored showcase, don’t forget that the PS Plus May 2024 Extra and Premium games will be revealed very soon. Some new games are already confirmed along with 35 departures. As for the leading PlayStation console exclusive this year, Helldivers 2, a new automaton enemy could be coming soon, meanwhile, a new leak gives a close-up look at the incoming Illuminate alien race.
The new PS Plus additions and planned Helldivers 2 updates are exciting, but moreso is the possibility of a PlayStation May 2024 showcase. Sony has not confirmed anything yet, but a reputable industry insider has said it could happen anytime before the month ends including this week.
PlayStation May 2024 showcase could happen this week
Renowned gaming industry insider, Jeff Grubb, has waved the flag for reporting that a PlayStation Showcase is planned for May 2024. He first reported the rumored event in April while suggesting that Silent Hill 2 will be part of the exhibition.
Now, in the Giant Bombcast episode 839 uploaded to YouTube on May 8th, Jeff Grubb once again claimed that it is happening and possibly soon. During the episode, while debunking a story about some elaborate connection between rapper Kendrick and the rumored showcase, Jeff Grubb said “that PlayStation showcase is happening this month still apparently”.
He also said “whether it’s happening this week or the week after I honestly don’t know, it could be the end of the month”. While not knowing, he continued to say “I wouldn’t be surprised if it does actually happen next week, it could happen at any moment, I don’t think Kendrick Lamar will be involved, but we’ll see”.
Seeing as the podcast was uploaded on May 8th, “next week” would have meant between May 13th and 19th. State of Play events typically happen on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, so they would be the best bet if the event were to happen this week.
Nothing has been confirmed by Sony as of writing, but here’s hoping the rumor is true. There are still plenty of PlayStation console exclusives planned for the remainder of the year including Silent Hill 2 and new PvP multiplayer game, Concord.
Last year’s PlayStation Showcase happened on May 24th so this week could be too early. But, whether it happens this week, next week, or at the end of the month as suggested by Grubb, here’s hoping it just happens at all. It would be a fantastic way to kickstart the summer of reveals and showcases before Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest takes place in June.
In addition to this rumored PlayStation Showcase, there are leaks suggesting Call of Duty 2024 will be revealed in May, too.
