Overwatch 2 players furious at Soldier 76 buff in recent patch

The latest patch was released just a few days ago for Overwatch 2 and saw a heap of changes for the game’s hero roster. However, players are noticeably disappointed with the recent buffs to Soldier 76. Players have noted that they feel like Soldier 76 completely oppresses any open play now since the latest patch.

In the latest patch for Overwatch 2, Blizzard noted that the buffs to Soldier 76 were implemented to make the hero more reliable as one of the character’s main strengths has always been “his reliable damage output.” While Soldier 76’s Heavy Pulse Rifle damage has increased from 18 to 19 it still doesn’t deal the initial 20-hit damage it had before the last patch. However, players have been pointing to the buff to Soldier 76’s Helix Rockets as cause for concern.

Taking to the Overwatch Reddit page user Slithero17 said, “Every game of quick play, ranked, and even arcade is full of Mercy pocketed Soldiers annihilating the whole lobby as if it were pre-nerf Sojourn.” Another player chimed in saying, “Right now it feels like Soldier does Bastion levels of damage without the disadvantages that Bastion suffers.” Noting their frustration with the recent buff to Solider 76’s Helix Rockets one user said, “The helix rocket damage buff was stupid. Buff him against Pharah, fine. But he doesn’t need helix for that. This just murders Tanks and Tracers more.” Notably, the Helix Rockets received a damage buff increasing their damage output from 80 to 90.

Even some Soldier 76 players are asking for these changes to be reverted. User Interesting_Ice_8498 said, “Yea, no joke, revert the changes, please. I play 76 a lot and damn he’s terrifying now, I can delete tanks with basically no effort. And playing tank is just even more miserable now.” We’ll have to wait and see if Blizzard addresses this sooner rather than later but in the meantime, the Overwatch 2 Season 6 release date has been set for August 15, 2023.
