Annapurna Interactive has announced timeloop-twisting puzzler Outer Wilds will be heading to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 in September.

The publisher made the announcement during a packed Annapurna Interactive Showcase event last night. This release will include native 60FPS support, and owners of the game on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 get a free upgrade. The game’s recent Echoes of the Eye expansion will also be available for both platforms. Lovely stuff.

If you’re not familiar, the game puts you as a space bound adventurer exploring a mini-solar system. However, a cataclysmic event destroys this little pocket-universe in just 22 minutes. Thanks to some timey-wimey weirdness, however, you find yourself back at the start of this timeloop, trying to stop the destruction. Along the way, you’ll find out why it’s happening and just maybe uncover some other mysteries along the way.

Though the main game released back in 2019, the game’s DLC only arrived just this past September. Echoes of the Eye introduces a new mysterious exhibit, promising a new story thread weaved into the existing narrative. How exactly it does this, that’s up to you to find out as developer Mobius deliberately keeps a lot of its mystery under wraps.

Speaking of Mobius Digital Games, they also offered an update on the game’s long-delayed Switch port via Twitter. “It’s a heavy undertaking, and well, you know how time dilation gets around dense gravitational fields. Rest assured, it’s still being worked on, and we’ll let you know when we have something exciting to share.”

In the meantime, Outer Wilds arrives on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on September 15. Check out the trailer below.
