Modern Warfare 3 has been one of the most controversial Call of Duty installments leading up to its launch. This is because many fans have argued that the game is massively overpriced DLC for Modern Warfare 2. And, unfortunately, the absence of an MW3 platinum trophy on PS5 lends credence to the belief that the game is MW2 DLC according to fans and its trophy list.
The release time for the MW3 early access campaign is imminent. The release date for multiplayer and zombies is November 10th, meanwhile, the start date for Season 1 isn’t until December. Upon launch, the game will undergo a pre-season where fans can complete the MW2 Season 6 battle pass that remains active. When each new season comes out, even more maps and locations will be added to the game with weapons and Operator skins.
While there’s undoubtedly lots of content in Modern Warfare 3, the game has not been able to completely eliminate cries that it is premium-priced MW2 DLC. And, sadly, the PS5 trophy list does not help Activision’s defense in the court of Call of Duty fans.
MW3 has no PS5 platinum trophy
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 does not have a platinum trophy on PS5 according to PowerPyx on Twitter. They are a source dedicated to guiding players in unlocking trophies and achievements, and their claim comes with screenshots of the trophy list. The screenshots show that there are 39 trophies to unlock on PS5, but there is no platinum. Even more damning is that MW3 is literally positioned as DLC trophies for Modern Warfare 2.
Bizarrely, there is a platinum trophy for Modern Warfare 3 on PS4. This is truly bizarre and no official explanation has been provided. But, according to CharlieIntel, it’s possibly because of Call of Duty HQ. On PS5, there is only the cross-gen bundle to buy, so you can at least download the PS4 version of the game if you’re desperate to get the platinum. However, it’s still weird and shocking that there is no prize for completing all trophies for the PS5 version of the game.
As you’d expect, fans are not happy. Over on Reddit, one of the top comments says this is ‘just further proof for the fact that MW3 was originally supposed to be a DLC for MW2‘. Most comments echo the sentiment that the trophy list proves the game ‘is literally DLC‘. For those not in the know, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier originally leaked MW3 as a DLC expansion for MW2. There was said to be no new CoD until 2024, but things changed with Modern Warfare 3 expanding to a full premium-priced AAA game. There has been back-and-forth between fans online with one player using a SpongeBob meme to prove the game is not DLC, but it’s an accusation that remains.
In other Call of Duty news, The Finals could possibly be the worst thing to happen to MW3. There is also a division between fans over the MW3 pre-season military ranks and seasonal prestige.
