Nintendo’s Japanese arm has moved to deny speculation it still plans to release a Nintendo Switch Pro model of some kind following the launch of the console’s new OLED model later this year.
The denial comes in the wake of a recent Bloomberg report, which claimed that the new version of the console’s increased cost meant a higher profit margin for the console maker. This was a claim that Nintendo also denied in its statement. It said: “To ensure correct understanding among our investors and customers, we want to make clear that the claim is incorrect.”
Nintendo finally unveiled the new OLED model of the Nintendo Switch a couple of weeks ago. However, it was noted by many that the specs for the new machine didn’t seem to line up to what Bloomberg had previously reported. The new console won’t output to a television at 4K, for example, and outside of the enhanced storage, speakers and a few other tweaks doesn’t seem to provide a significant hardware boost to the console.
Nintendo seem to be sticking to their guns for the time being, so if you’re after a more significant upgrade it looks like you’ll be waiting a little while longer. The Nintendo Switch OLED model will launch this October 8 for an RRP of £309.99.
