Alix Wilton Regan is the new voice actor for Lara Croft in Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider Catalyst. She has received the torch from Camilla Ludington, who portrayed Lara in the Survivor trilogy, and Regan believes that she’s just getting started, with the upcoming games marking the dawn of a new era for Lady Croft.

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is scheduled to release in 2026 and is a “reimagining” of Lara Croft’s first game, released for the PS1 back in 1996. Meanwhile, Tomb Raider Catalyst takes place after Underworld, which was released in 2008. This makes Catalyst the newest story in the timeline of Lara Croft’s adventures.

Speaking to The Gamer, Regan says her portrayal of Lara Croft is a “very cool reimagining”. She also describes Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst as “the best of the best,” and proclaims that she’s “just getting started” with this “new era of Tomb Raider”.

While Regan believes that she’s “just getting started,” she “genuinely” doesn’t know if there will be more games after Catalyst, which is targeting a 2027 release. However, she’s not thinking of the upcoming games as a “one-and-done” because she’s “observing the energy with which Crystal Dynamics and Amazon are committing to these two projects”.

Regan says everything she’s observed from Crystal Dynamics and Amazon “signals that this is a real rebirth for Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise”.

New Tomb Raider actor portrays “definitive version” of Lara Croft

Although she “can’t talk about how [Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst] are linked,” Regan says the Lara Croft she portrays in both games is “one consistent, definitive, kick-ass version,” although there will be distinctions.

Regan also hails Lara as the “dog’s bollocks,” and says Tomb Raider is the “most exciting project” she has taken because not only is Lara Croft a “British female icon,” she’s also “literally been voted the most iconic video game character of all time at the BAFTA Game Awards in 2024, ahead of Mario”.

Alt Cunningham in Cyberpunk 2077, the female Inquisitor in Dragon Age Inquisition, and Samantha Traynor in Mass Effect 3 are all famous roles from Regan’s past. However, Regan argues that Tomb Raider is even better because Lara being a “British woman resonates very deeply and very personally”.

Finally, Regan describes Lara as “hyper-intelligent [and] supremely capable,” as well as someone with “tremendous depth”. Regan is “hugely excited” for what’s to come, and she thinks the “fans should be, too”.

The popularity of Tomb Raider and Lara Croft cannot be understated. Not only was Lara voted the “most iconic video game character,” but she’s also recently been crowned by the Guinness World Records as the best-selling video game heroine of all time, with the Tomb Raider franchise selling over 100 million units since 1996.

Leaks claim Legacy of Atlantis will tie into Catalyst by debuting the Society of Raiders. This is reportedly a group that Lara is a part of, but they become rivals in Catalyst.

As for the future of Tomb Raider, Regan’s observation of Crystal Dynamics and Amazon’s commitment is supported by Amazon producing a live-action series starring Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. This live-action series reportedly shares the same universe as the new games.
