FPS Neon Beasts has been revealed as a “80’s fever dream” taking ingredients from TimeSplitters, Hotline Miami and classic action movie They Live, and it’s due out next year.

Announced during this year’s Realms Deep event over the weekend, the game puts you in the shoes of Beast. He’s described as a vicious hitman who’s sent to take down a terrorist known as Vincent. You’ll cut through an “endless ocean” of gang members trying to stop you making your way to the Onyx Tower.

The game promises “fast-paced combat” requiring split-second decision making. Chugging a special energy drink called Neon, you’ll earn new abilities, or upgrade existing ones. Realism is out of the window in favour of coolness, with a range of over-the-top weapons and moves possible like slides and wallruns.

As you’d expect with the named inspirations, you can expect a suitably synth-heavy soundtrack thumping on the speakers. It’s also heavy on the neon and pastel palette, which you can get a good look at in the trailer below.

The game is currently in development for “consoles and PC” though stops short of saying specifically which ones. At the time of writing, Neon Beasts is aiming for a 2022 release. You can also check out a demo for the game right over this way.
