Namco has announced “Shogun Warrior: The Lost Army” for the Nintendo DS. The game will take advantage of the system’s unique strengths with the game being controlled via the touch screen and eight-player skirmishes being possible thanks to the DS’ built in WiFi support.

In the game you play one of two brothers in Feudal Japan. You must conquer neighbouring territories and build a strong army in an attempt to claim the title of Shogun. While you control the battle using the DS’ touch screen you can watch the battle in full 3D on the top screen. As well as the standard battles players will be able to play a number of mini games that take part during battle.

“With its touch screen and wireless multiplayer capabilities, the Nintendo DS is uniquely suited to excel at real-time strategy games,” said Jeff Lujan, Business Director at Namco Hometek. “‘Shogun Warrior’ fully embraces these features to deliver an all new and innovative gameplay experience to handheld gamers, while offering a rich and vibrant interpretation of feudal Japan.”

Shogun Warrior is scheduled for an October 2005 release exclusively for the Nintendo DS. Check out the first screens for the game here.
