MW3 is bringing back the classic red dot mini map for unsuppressed weapon fire according to a message from Activision’s marketing number. In addition to its confirmation, the CoD publisher also sent an earlier note telling fans to “mark your enemies” and “be one step ahead,” which was then followed by an image of a rusted iron vault.

Similar to previous messages from Activision’s automated marketing number, this latest detail could only be uncovered by sending a specific keyword. Fortunately, CoD content creator ModernWarzone discovered that if you sent the phrase “red dot” to the number, the publisher would then confirm the feature in question. Naturally, this news was received positively ahead of the Modern Warfare 3 release date as many had been lamenting the fact that it was removed in MW2.

For those unfamiliar, the removal of red dots from MW2’s mini map had become a point of contention within the community back in 2022 as many felt that it made finding enemies significantly harder. This widespread sentiment is further evidenced by CoD news aggregator CharlieIntel‘s statements, which said: “Red dots on the mini map for unsuppressed weapon fire should’ve never been removed. The only studio that did remove it was Infinity Ward.”

Stract, a content creator commenting under ModernWarzone‘s original post, simply noted that “campers [are] gonna hate this,” since it’ll reveal their location as soon as they fire their weapon. Of course, many within the fan base are excited by this development since it essentially means that MW3 will present a faster and more action-packed experience compared to the slower and more methodical approach of MW2.

With the launch of the next series entry still being a ways off, however, you’ll have to remain patient for now before you can experience all that MW3 has to offer.
