Activision has given fans of Modern Warfare 3 the first look at Modern Warfare 3 villain Makarov in a new trailer that’s just dropped as the publisher confirms the game’s full reveal will come next week.

The shadowy villain was a big part of the original Modern Warfare story, being the man who orchestrates most of the events of the original trilogy and is considered by many to be its main antagonist as the leader of the terrorist cell that effectively starts that series’ games version of World War 3. In the new series, he’s played much more of a mysterious background role, barely appearing at all in person in the story so far – though there’s been more than a couple of hints and fingerprints that fans have found that point to the villain being involved.

Now, it seems he’ll be out of the shadows and front and center of the 2023 version of Modern Warfare 3, given he’s got a big enough role to warrant this trailer all of his own. How ruthless will he be? We’ll be finding out presumably over the course of the Modern Warfare 3 campaign and, potentially, in the long-term story as Warzone is updated for the new game over the coming seasons as well.

The trailer also confirms that the full reveal of MW3 will take place next week, on August 17. Things will kick off with an in-game event in Warzone that’ll take place alongside the reveal. A tweet from the game’s official account even offers up a a phone number players are encouraged to sign up for to get more information through in-universe texts. Presumably then, we’ll be getting the full information drop on August 17 with all the information fans are wanting to hear.

So far, we already know that the Modern Warfare 3 release date has now been confirmed for November 10. For more on what we know about the game so far, check out our Modern Warfare 3 weapons list and our MW3 pre order speculation guide.
