The first MW3 beta weekend has been met with much divisiveness, as has been par for the course for each CoD installment. Though most players praised the latest installment for bringing back several beloved features, some within the community are now complaining about the game’s poor graphics, even going so far as to call it the “biggest downgrade” in the series’s history.

With the second beta weekend set to kick off soon ahead of the Modern Warfare 3 release date, the always-vocal series fan base is beginning to make their opinions known to both Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games. Naturally, most compliments and complaints have already made their way to the figurative desks of the CoD higher-ups, prompting the developers to release an announcement stating their plans to improve a few in-game elements, like map spawns and slide timing.

Unfortunately, Sledgehammer Games has made no mention of the players’ gripes revolving around the poor visuals, meaning that the MW3 graphics will likely stay the same until launch and beyond. Unsurprisingly, members of the CoD community have now started posting scathing criticisms on social media sites such as Reddit to bring more attention to this issue.

One Reddit post by super_slimey00 said: “The game is the biggest downgrade ever in graphics and even the feel/mechanics.” “It’s fun, but is this the sacrifice that has to be made?” they continued. “Or is Sledgehammer [Games] just a studio with cheap resources cause it could be great if it wasn’t decade-old graphics.” Elsewhere, Redditor Hamnesiak echoed a similar sentiment: “Some of the textures look straight out from the 2010s (walls, furniture, etc.).” There is definitely a lack of polishing, and I don’t think it will catch up with today’s graphic standards with the full release,” they added.

Unfortunately, with in-game feature updates at the forefront of the developer’s mind, the downgraded graphics may not be too high up on their list of things to improve. For now, you’ll have to make do with MW3’s outdated aesthetics until Sledgehammer Games decides to acknowledge the community’s visual complaints.
