MW3 publisher Activision is set to introduce a sophisticated new AI-powered tool soon that listens to players’ voice chat in an effort “to combat toxic and disruptive behavior.”

According to a statement from the game’s publisher, the new voice chat moderation system “utilizes ToxMod, the AI-powered voice chat moderation technology from Modulate, to identify in real-time and enforce against toxic speech.” This will include hate speech, discriminatory language, harassment, and more. This new system will also bring with it a more robust report system, which hopefully means that the game will be more efficient in giving troublemakers their just desserts.

It’s worth noting, though, that the AI tool itself will not be able to ban players. Instead, it simply flags text or speech that it deems unsavory and Activision will then be the ones to decide whether or not the suspect gets punished. However, with the new system yet to be integrated into MW2 and MW3 at the time of writing, its effectivity towards preventing typical instances of toxicity and unpleasant behavior remains to be seen.

Fortunately, if you’re looking forward to seeing the tool in action for yourself, you won’t have to wait too long. Activision has also stated that “an initial beta rollout of the voice chat moderation technology will begin in North America on August 30” inside both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone. A worldwide release (excluding Asia) will then follow on November 10.

Of course, with the pre-release set to begin ahead of the Modern Warfare 3 release date, the initial product will likely be less than perfect as Modulate and Activision will no doubt be improving upon it at first. Once the next series installment drops, however, players should be able to experience the full capabilities of ToxMod, so toxic players beware.
