Players of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are combing through Infinity Ward and Raven Software’s plans for Season 2 – and not every announcement has gone down well.

An often requested feature for the shooter has been some kind of map voting system to be introduced into the game, to allow players some control over the location of their next battle.

However, in a classic case of ‘be careful what you wish for’ – this map voting system won’t be in the game at all, but rather via Twitter.

As per the Season 2 Community Update, under ‘Playlists’ is written the following “One week per month, Infinity Ward will be creating a Twitter Poll for fans to vote on one of that week’s playlists from a rotating pool’.

Over on the MW2 Reddit, this news hasn’t gone down too well – with some choice quotes from the community. “One week per month they’ll ask if we want Shipment, Shoothouse, or both.”

User Ludicrousity responded with the classic meme “We have map voting at home” while some are pointing out a poll like this could be added to the Welcome screen. As JTENGEORGIA says “Just like they did for the World Cup. IW has to be trolling everyone at this point.”

It’s certainly better than nothing, but as some users have pointed out the move does seemingly ignore a good portion of the MW2 community who aren’t on Twitter.

Infinity Ward and Raven Software has promised more new details on Season 2 in the coming weeks – and there’s plenty of other additions and changes already confirmed.

But given the community has already been complaining about the lack of maps in the game already, giving players more options of where to play seems like it should be an easy win. Hopefully they’ll provide more ways of doing so in the future.

Season 2 of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 is set to arrive next month.
