Xbox boss Phil Spencer wants fans to know that more exclusive games will be coming to PlayStation 5 and other platforms. Following the announcement of Indiana Jones and The Great Circle on PS5, Spencer warned fans that other Xbox games will also be coming to PlayStation consoles.

Xbox in a changing industry

Spencer explained that the changing games industry means that more Xbox games will undoubtedly make their way to PS5. While Xbox gamers will receive new games first, as well as being added to Game Pass, games will come to Sony’s console shortly afterwards.

“Going to the PlayStation announcement, obviously, last spring we launched four games – two of them on the Switch, four of them on PlayStation,” Spencer said at Gamescom. “We said we were going to learn. I think at the Showcase I might have said that from our learning, we’re going to do more.”

Spencer explains that internal targets at Microsoft are extremely high. Following years of acquisitions—including Bethesda and Activision—Xbox is under scrutiny to turn record profits. This means that more Xbox games, outside of flagship IP like Gears, Halo and Forza—will be on PS5 and other platforms eventually.

“It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft that the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery that we have to give back to the company,” Spencer said. “Because we get a level of support from the company that is just amazing in terms of what we’re able to go do.”

Spencer explained that Xbox fans will need to get used to the change. With “pressure on the industry” and pressure from Microsoft, this is a change that needs to happen.

Xbox Exclusives don’t equal player numbers

Despite the unfortunate state of Xbox exclusives compared to PS5, Phil Spencer claims that Xbox player numbers are higher than ever. Across PC, console and Xbox Cloud Gaming, the gaming brand is technically bigger than ever.

“Our Xbox console players this year are as high as they’ve ever been,” the Xbox head said, “So I look at it and I say, our player numbers are going up for the console platform, our franchises are as strong as they’ve ever been… and we run a business.” For more Xbox news, check out the new Genshin Impact release date or the new Game Pass August 2024 additions.
