Niantic and Capcom have set a release date for the brand new Monster Hunter mobile spin-off game, Monster Hunter Now.

In a special showcase, the developers announced the September 14 release date, and gave an in-depth look at gameplay for the title, which is coming from the same studio house responsible for Pokemon Go. Like that game, you’ll be encouraged to explore the real world in order to hunt monsters and gather materials in various locations. You’ll be able to then use these materials both gathered and from successful hunts to upgrade your equipment and take on more powerful beasts in the Monster Hunter universe.

There’ll be six different weapon types for you to pick from including sword and shield, great sword, long sword, Hammer, Light Bowgun and Bow. You’ll be able to team up with friends in squads of up to four players to take down monsters, but you can alternatively invite other nearby players who are in the nearby vicinity to help you on your hunt. We got to see some of that in action in the showcase video above.

There’ll be plenty of familiar monsters for fans of the series, including Great Jagras, Pukei-Pukei, Rathian, Barros, Rathalos, Diablos making up just some of the 13 different types of Monsters at launch – and there’ll be subspecies of these monsters too. While the launch monsters are mainly focused on those from Monster Hunter World, more creatures from other entries in the series will be introduced in future updates, with the devs even hoping to introduce its own original monster at some point in the future.

The game was originally announced back in April but as the devs revealed during the showcase, has been in development for four years. The team also promise that those in rural areas will be able to play just as much as those in heavily populated areas too, a key criticism many players have had with Pokemon Go in the past.

Those keen to get the game can pre-register now for the game over on the official website to be notified as soon as the game is available to download. Monster Hunter Now will be available for both Android and iOS devices from September 14, 2023.
