Niantic Inc, creator of the wildly successful Pokémon Go, has announced Monster Hunter Now – a brand new mobile title coming this September based on Capcom’s long-running series.

Niantic describe the game as bringing “the exciting experience of Monster Hunter to streets, parks and neighborhoods around the world” and will arrive on iOS and Android in September. Players are already being offered the chance to sign up for a closed beta of Monster Hunter Now which will go live later this month on April 25.

You’ll take on the role of a hunter in the game – of course – but this time you’ll be venturing into the real world and teaming up with fellow players to take down the monsters you know and love from the Monster Hunter series. While details on the specifics of the game are being held for a later reveal, we did get to see some of how the game will play in a trailer, which you can see down below.

Niantic promise that both Monster Hunter veterans and newcomers to the series will be able to enjoy the game – and there’ll even be items that help you play at your own pace, with one example given being the Paintball. You’ll be able to use this on a Monster you encounter while out and about, and it’ll allow you to bring that same monster back home with you to fight when you’re ready or with your friends. The Paintball will also work when the game is closed – as your Palico companion (of course, they’re in the game too) will mark them for you.

John Hanke, Founder and CEO of Niantic, gives a quote: “Monster Hunter Now will be the ultimate experience for anyone who has dreamed of facing off against epic monsters and battling them with friends. Filled with fantastical creatures, engrossing hunting and opportunities for teamwork, with the best possible graphics on mobile devices, Monster Hunter Now is the perfect franchise to bring into the real world.”

Monster Hunter Now will launch on iOS and Android phones this September, 2023.
