Modern Warfare 2 is no stranger when it comes to introducing a broken weapon that’s exponentially stronger than its counterparts.
From the ever-present TAQ-56 meta to the frustrating Riot Shield turtling epidemic, there have often been specific pieces of gear that take a temporary stranglehold on the CoD community, only to leave once a new trend has started popping up. However, there is one particular item that has consistently remained on the list of notoriously overpowered weapons, and that’s the KV Broadside shotgun.
The KV Broadside, which was first introduced as part of the Season Two update back in February 2023, has since become one of the most infamous in-game weapons due to its unfair, non-Shotgun-like range and its absurd stopping power. As soon as it was released, a large number of players predictably started asking the developers to nerf the gun as many had immediately been subjected to its Dragon’s Breath-based wrath once it became available.
Although Infinity Ward did eventually decrease the damage that the Dragon’s Breath ammo could deal, it appears they’ve decided to do a complete 180 as they’ve now strengthened the KV Broadside shotgun with the latest batch of Modern Warfare 2 nerfs and buffs, turning it into even more of a broken weapon. Based on the first change made under the “Shotguns” category, its mid-range damage has apparently been increased, meaning you won’t need to stand next to an enemy just to erase them from the map.
Upon learning of this latest change, a few fans have predictably taken to Reddit to voice their frustrations as evidenced by a few of the comments under a post by Sybrun. Murky-Alternative-73 reacted to the update by saying that this is “more proof [Infinity Ward] hate their player base,” while IIILordrevanIII noted that “[the developers] are fixing things nobody asked for and leaving everything that messes the game up.”
With that said, this specific change is certainly surprising seeing as how many within the community have often complained of the KV Broadside’s power in certain scenarios. However, the Modern Warfare 2 developers haven’t exactly been known for listening to their community thus far so improving a broken weapon may just be par for the course at this point.
