Shovel Knight creator Yacht Club Games has unveiled its next game in action adventure Mina the Hollower.

The game sees you take the role of the titular Mina as she receives a letter from Baron Lionel, a longtime patron of hers. He asks her to return to the Tenebrous Isle to investigate why its Spark Generators have gone out. So begins the gothic-horror adventure, taking cues from both topdown The Legend of Zelda titles and, of all games, Bloodborne.

As was the case with Shovel Knight, there’s a deliberate retro aesthetic to proceedings. However, Mina the Hollower will have an 8-bit Game Boy Color look and feel, but with plenty of modern refinements. To that end, expect silky smooth 60FPS action combat, widescreen visuals and very modern controls.

You’ll get to use a bunch of weapons, including a trusty whip in a nod to Castlevania. You’ll also collect trinkets with various effects, and be able to level up Mina to suit your playstyle. We’re also promised a “huge, dark world brimming with secrets” to explore.

As with the original Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games is turning to its fans to help finance Mina the Hollower via Kickstarter. However, the team also note they’re financing the majority for themselves and are just looking for a bit of an extra push. Happily, at the time of writing, the team has already blown through its initial goal with 29 days left.

There’s no release date just yet and platforms are subject to change. However, all being well, Mina the Hollower should arrive in the not-too-distant future on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
