Eidos Montreal has launched the latest developer insight video for upcoming superhero adventure Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy focused on the game’s music.

The game’s soundtrack centres around two key areas. First, there’s an epic orchestral score written by BAFTA nominated composer Richard Jacques. Recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London, six hours of original music will accompany the game’s narrative journey. However, as well as the orchestra care has been take to ensure the music blends with the game’s licensed soundtrack.

Of course, the aforementioned licensed soundtrack will be just as important as the score. We’re promised a bunch of classic 1980s pop and rock hits. These include tracks from Iron Maiden, KISS, Rick Astley, Hot Chocolate and more. Star-Lord will also be able to use a Huddle ability where he can queue up a track on his Walkman, giving he and the other Guardians a boost in battle.

Finally, senior Audio Director Steve Szczepkowski reveals how he wound up creating an entire original rock album for the game. In the game’s universe, Peter Quill’s Star-Lord moniker is actually taken from his favourite band before he was abducted into space. So to flesh out this part of the story Szczepkowski wound up creating and singing lead on an entire album of original music. You’ll get to hear these tracks as part of the game.
