Galactus’ hold over the Marvel Snap meta has finally been released, as the location destroyer has received a huge nerf that makes him borderline unplayable.

The long-awaited June update for Marvel Snap is finally here, and the changes to Galactus have turned the meta on its head. No longer is he a 6/2 that can destroy the other two locations if he’s your only card there – he’s now a 6/7 with an effect that reads as follows:

On Reveal: If you’re winning this location and this is your only card here, destroy all other locations.

In the patch notes detailing the changes, Second Dinner explained that Galactus received a nerf because his “play rate was moving past the thresholds we set to determine both competitive diversity and also how frequently the game gets reduced to that state.” They go on to explain that because Galactus is somewhat simple to counter – Cosmo, Shang-Chi, Green Goblin/Hobgoblin, Professor X being some examples – they waited to see if the meta would resolve itself, but it didn’t. This Galactus redesign will allow the team to tweak his power further to buff or nerf him as required, but sticks to the true spirit of the card.

On the other side of the fence, Dazzler has had a huge buff. Her old statline of 4/4 is now 3/2, and her ability is an ongoing that gives her +2 power for each location on your side that is full. This means she can fairly consistently become a 3/8, and she now has a home in Silver Surfer or Patriot/Ultron decks.

The other buff in this patch comes to Maria Hill, and is much smaller. She can now add a a 1-cost or a 2-cost card to your hand, as opposed to only 1-cost cards. Thematically, she pairs up better with Agent Coulson (who adds a 3-cost or 4-cost card to your hand), and the cards she adds can also be reduced in cost by Quinjet.

Now, for the other flagship addition to this update – Conquest mode is here. While ranked play sees players compete in one-off games against random opponents, Conquest is essentially a competitive version of battle mode, which sees you compete against friends with a “health bar” that gets depleted over a series of rounds.
