Players of Marvel Snap are not best pleased with developer Second Dinner, as a leaked upcoming bundle is leading the community to believe the game is quickly becoming pay to win.
The latest example of this has arrived with the uncovering of $30 bundle that seems to be in the works, featuring one of the most powerful cards in the game. As spotted by Yellow_Steel in a thread on the game’s subreddit, the bundle includes a variant for Darkhawk, which will unlock the base card for anyone that hasn’t either bought him with collectors tokens or been lucky enough to get him via the progression system yet.
To briefly explain: Darkhawk is considered one of the best cards thanks to his power that sees him gain two power for every card in an opponent’s hand. This makes him especially dangerous when paired up with any characters that can return cards to players hands, or even give them more. He flourishes when paired with Korg, Rock Slide, Black Widow, and Mystique, for example.
Previously, new cards would be introduced into Series Five for a 6,000 tokens, and cards would drop into Series Four (and then Series Three) the longer they had been around. But recently, Second Dinner has changed this pattern, reserving the right to keep certain cards at a high token cost as they see fit.
Given it’s a lengthy process and takes a lot of playtime to earn tokens, you can see how players may be pushed to spend real money to get the cards they want. So while Darkhawk isn’t limited to just the bundle, he was due to drop down into Series Three this month from four, which would also increase the chances of getting the card via the collection track.
Many on the subreddit are, naturally, angry with these plans. “Should have known that it was greed all along,” says RandomDudeWithIdeas. “Really poor move that will leave a bitter taste in many peoples mouths.” Meanwhile 5MoreMinutes proposes “Can we all just collectively agree to not buy this bundle to never support this kind of toxicity so that they will never do such a stupid move like this ever again?”
We’ll have to wait and see if the community’s ire is enough to make Second Dinner reconsider. Marvel Snap players recently got frustrated over the delayed release of the High Evolutionary card, so this isn’t the first time the community has been annoyed recently.
