Updated 24 May (11pm BST): Players of Marvel Snap can finally rejoice, as an issue preventing the launch of the new High Evolutionary card has now been fixed, and the card is now available.

The game’s official Twitter account revealed the happy news, saying “As a reminder, to see High Evolutionary in your shop, you will need to update to the latest version of Marvel Snap via your preferred app store. Additionally, we’ll be sending out 300 gold via the inbox for this featured card’s delayed arrival.”

Updated 24 May: Previously, developers Second Dinner Studios gave word on progress via their social channels. “The team has found a solution for the High Evolutionary issue, but unfortunately the patch release process takes a bit more time. We’re trying to get High Evolutionary released to you as quickly as possible, but it’s not going to happen today. We know you’re disappointed, we are too. We’ll share information as we know more. Thanks for your patience.”

For now, fans are left wondering whether the card will arrive in a patch later this week, or if the fix won’t be deployed until the game’s next big update, expected to come in June. Any patch will have to go through an approval process, however, so it could turn up later this week. We’ll keep you posted.

Original story follows: The High Evolutionary was supposed to arrive earlier this week as part of Series 5 – but a last minute issue was flagged on the game’s official Discord server when players checked the game following the weekly refresh to find the villain conspicuous by his absence. “We’re aware of an issue preventing the High Evolutionary from showing up in the Token Shop or Collector’s Caches/Reserves,” came the official word. “The team is currently working to find a solution and we’ll update when we have more information. Thanks for your patience!”

An update did indeed come a few hours later, but it wasn’t quite the news fans wanted to hear. “The fix for High Evolutionary is going to require a client patch. Which unfortunately means, it’s going to take some time. We’ll continue to update everyone as we work towards the solution. Appreciate y’all! Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Fans were of course disappointed, with many on the Marvel Snap subreddit posting their memes – a popular one being the classic Simpsons meme with Moe throwing out Barney from his bar only for him to return – with Barney in this case represented by Howard the Duck, who was last week’s focus. “They even sent out the notification and everything,” lamented MrDude65 – who jokingly hoped that players could be compensated for the delay “What if we all got it free like Kitty Pride, lmao? Obviously it won’t happen, too much cash to be made, but a guy can dream.”

Some players were not quite as forgiving, however. “To charge 100 bucks for stupid bundles you guys get it right all the time,” began SpaceTraveler2084. “But when people want to spend tokens that you guys SELL for a HIGH price to get a new card we get this?” More Simpsons references were made by delarosa_mimosa who says “SD is the stepping on rake Simpsons bit the company. People finally get excited about a card release even tho buying new cards routinely sucks then this happens!”

The new card looks set to be a popular addition to players’ decks when he does arrive – as he’ll have the unique power to grant new abilities to any other card that doesn’t already have an ability in the game – unlocking plenty of tactical opportunities. With an energy cost of 4 and 4 power, he’s also a decent mid-game option for anyone who has him in their deck. Hopefully, players won’t be waiting too much longer for a solution.
