Plug in your keyboard and mouse, and make sure your controllers are charged because Epic Games has finally introduced a crucial update to Fortnite Festival. As part of its Season 3 update, the game’s developers are giving players “the ability to play Pro Lead and Pro Bass on any console platform or on PC, even without a supported guitar controller.” So, even if you aren’t a Guitar Hero/Rock Band OG who boasts a complete kit, you’ll still be able to rock out.
Like with any update, though, this isn’t the only new feature being added to Fortnite Festival. According to their blog post, Epic Games is also introducing KBM (keyboard + mouse) support for Pro Lead and Pro Bass, and you can also use supported guitar controllers for Vocal and Drum parts! It’s also worth noting that the new KBM keybinding feature will allow you to hold your keyboard like a guitar, which still essentially lets you channel your inner Jimi Hendrix.
According to Epic Games’ update notes, the default keybinds for KBM will be as follows: Keys 1 to 5 for Green to Orange note lanes, right Shift and Enter buttons for strumming, Page Down for Overdrive, and right Ctrl for the Whammy Bar. If this setup doesn’t strike your fancy, you will be able to change it based on your preferences. Using Page Down for Overdrive, in particular, seems unintuitive, so you may need to experiment with it before hopping into a jam session.
Keep in mind, though, that this update isn’t out yet and will only be available starting May 24. So, for now, you’ll have to remain patient and get a few winks before you can start enjoying all these new handy features. While you wait, take a look at our guides on how to use the Guitar Hero guitar in Fortnite Festival so you can immediately set up your kit.
