Hazelight Studios has announced it’s teaming up with dj2 Entertainment to adapt co-op adventure It Takes Two for film & television.

As broken by Variety, the two teams will collaborate on the project, which doesn’t have a studio or network attached yet. However, Variety’s sources claim that the writers working on the adaptation are Pas Casey and Josh Miller. They’re the writing pair responsible for the recent Sonic the Hedgehog movie and its upcoming sequel.

Hazelight’s outspoken founder and CEO Josef Fares said the following on the announcement. “Creating the world and story in ‘It Takes Two’ was so much fun for me and the team. Since it has a strong narrative with many crazy characters and just as crazy co-op action moments, the potential is huge for a great adaption to film or television.”

In case you’re unfamiliar, last year’s It Takes Two follows Cody and May. They’re two parents facing relationship issues, who find themselves turned into dolls after their daughter makes a magical wish. They’re forced to work together to return to their human forms. Along the way, they meet a cast of characters including “love guru” Dr Hakim, a relationship advice book brought to life by the same magic. The co-op game’s done pretty well, selling over three million copies by October of last year.

CEO and founder of dj2 Entertainment, Dmitri M Johnson sounds very excited to work with Fares and the team. “Just like the rest of the gaming world, we fell head-over-heels in love with Cody, May, Rose, Dr. Hakim and the imaginative fantasy universe Hazelight have created, and can’t wait to bring these characters -and this world- to life on the big and small screen.”

It Takes Two is currently available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
