  • The next gen update is free for those who already own the game
  • There are number of bug fixes and improvements
  • PC gamers get widescreen and ultra-wide support

Despite the lack of a new video game for several years, Fallout has become really hot once again thanks to the stupendous TV series from Amazon Prime. This has introduced more people to the franchise as well as gotten previous fans slipping back into the iconic blue and yellow vaultsuit. For returning and new fans, here you will find all of the new content included in the imminent Fallout 4 next-gen update.

We have been waiting a while for the Fallout 4 next-gen update to come out, but finally the release date is right around the corner. The series’ player base has massively grown following the launch of the Amazon Prime television show, but you’d be better off waiting a couple of days before jumping back into 2015 classic.

Fallout 4 was already great when it first came out almost 10 years ago, but then it was improved with the addition of mod support for consoles. Now it is getting another significant improvement with the next-gen update that will add a bunch of new content for players to enjoy. The key highlights include improved framerates for those on next-gen console, while PC players finally get ultra-wide and widescreen support. Let’s take a closer look at what’s in store.

  • Bug fixes
  • 60 FPS and increased resolutions

If you happen to still be on PS4 or Xbox One, you will receive a free patch that will deliver only stability improvements along with login and quest fixes.

Everything included for PC

Below is all of the improvements the Fallout 4 next-gen update will add to the game on PC:

  • Widescreen and ultra-widescreen support
  • Fixes to Creation Kit
  • Variety of quest updates
  • Stability, mods and bug fixes for Steam, Microsoft Store, GOG

The game will also become available to buy from the Epic Games store.

Fallout 4 next-gen update new content

Lastly, below is all of the new content that will be added to on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC with the next-gen update:

  • Enclave Colonel Uniform
  • Enclave Weapon Skins
  • Enclave Armor Skins
  • Tesla Cannon
  • Hellfire Power Armor
  • X-02 Power Armor
  • Heavy Incinerator
  • Makeshift Weapon Pack
    • Baseball Launcher
    • Nail Gun
    • Piggy Bank
  • Halloween Workshop
    • 38 Halloween-themed decorations

All of the above comes courtesy of Bethesda’s update overview. We think it’s a pretty generous update, combining both much-needed bug fixes and performance improvements with some new, highly requested features. The addition of the Quality versus Performance mode on console is fantastic and works so well with this crop of hardware – as we’ve seen with the likes of God of War: Ragnarok. There is one notable omission, though, at least for PC gamers; Ray Tracing. There is still no official ray tracing support for Fallout 4, which would elevate the game massively – as we’ve seen recently with Portal. We’re hoping that one day ray tracing does make its way to the Commonwealth, but for now, we’ll have to make do with mods.

Is The Fallout 4 Next Gen Update Free?

The Fallout 4 next gen update will be a free update that will be automatically downloaded on April 25th for all owners of the game on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and will require no extra purchases. If you’re a Fallout fan and have Amazon Prime, the first Season is currently out and we highly recommend it.
