Careful not to max out your mouse DPI in Counter Strike 2 – it might get you banned.

According to several reports, “if you change the mouse DPI to the max (e.g. 16,000 or 25,600)” and are reported for any reason – you can get banned. The user who raised this issue claimed it had never been an issue in Counter Strike: Global Offensive, only for it to begin happening in CS2.

After a recent ban wave in CS2, it looks as though the rate of bans has slowed down slightly, at least according to the latest figures from ConVars. However, despite this, players are still at risk of being banned in very specific circumstances. One such instance, sourced from Reddit, claims that that they made ‘precise’ 180-degree sharp turn and killed a player.” Previously, they had played in a casual game and cranked up sensitivity before forgetting to reset it before a ranked match. The next day, they had woken up to find out they were banned. They continued “not only does the VAC have some bugs, but also the AI Overwatch is inaccurate.”

So, according to reports, you need to crank up DPI to 16,000, spin very fast and then kill someone. It’s a pretty unlikely set of criteria, yet people have been responding with solidarity. “Valve really need to step in and give people their accounts back,” one comment reads in a Steam Community discussion, while others have said “I don’t really see how this system is good in any way.”

Players have been creating burner accounts to test this out: “tested with 16000 dpi, high sens in a casual game, multiple different people reported, will check over the account next few days and confirm,” though no follow-up has been confirmed.

Of course, claims such as these should be substantiated with evidence, right? The community seem to think so too.

“Yeah, you so innocent … as if,” retorts one community member, while another says “they are getting more creative with their excuses though.”

We have reached out to Valve to comment on these claims, and await their response. In the meantime, you might consider the best graphics settings for CS2 or the best mouse and sensitivity settings instead.
